As a co-author of the book recently published Winning Mindset, I decided it would be interesting to invite readers to share their thoughts after reading my chapter 'Empowered Action Changes Things'. To kick off I invited Bhavna Upadhyay, TLEX Institute, a masters level Social Worker and health and wellbeing Practitioner to review the chapter and this is what she said:
I am reading Jan’s chapter in the book Winning Mindset that has just come out. The chapter is titled ‘Empowered Action Changes Things’. I immediately felt like I could add to his writing rather it is pertinent for me to add to what Jan says so rightly.
Here is an excerpt from me on Jan’s writing. First a review of the chapter then my additional reflections in light of my own position on this topic of wellbeing.
'I can sense an authentic care in Jan’s approach to bring people to empower themselves to live their full potential. Jan’s authentic care for his approach inspires me to review his writing in this chapter.
As I read about the approaches of Let-go, Empower, Act and Flourish, I add to this by saying that a disease free body and a trauma free memory is a birthright of every human being. I will also say that this is a possibility for every human, every person. I do agree with Jan that some events lead to pleasant and unpleasant emotions and sometimes emotional baggage for us and this hinders us in living ourselves fully in the moment. This is why we see successful people with heavy shoulders walking down lanes of New York and London. There must be a tool which we as humans can utilize to be able to emerge lighter, clearer, and free from trauma and diseases and hence truly successful for and in our lives. Otherwise we are living our lives striving to make bed all night but not have time to sleep. Breath is the key here. I bring forth and I will bring along the value and power of breath in future to Jan’s writing. I will bring along the value of breath as a powerful tool not only via reading and writing about it, but also in the experience of it.
With an applause to Jan for his awesome work so far, I send my best wishes for his future endeavours'.
An action taken with awareness is right, fruitful and brings winning in real life.
I feel the Winning Mindset is about a mind which is set with awareness to Win. Let me allow myself to explain to you what I mean by this.
We function from various levels of existence. We exist at different levels. Awareness is key to all levels of existence. Bringing awareness to all levels is vital. Mind is one of the levels of our existence. By bringing awareness to our mind, in our mind we make our mind ready to be set to win.
When we take an action from a mind which is not set, the action is influenced from past successes and failures and influenced also from what may or may not happen in future. A mind which is not set is influenced by thoughts of regret from the past and thoughts of anxiety about the future. This kind of mind is not full, not powerful because this mind is not in the present fully. To get our mind set to win is an intelligent thing to do.
We have read and heard from various sources such as libraries and books, podcasts, research and online sources that a mind in the present is a powerful mind. However, to experience this is another level. Mind is not a tangible thing. So it is difficult to make something happen to it, through it by telling the mind. And here we want to question whether there is something else which has a power to affect the mind which is mostly elusive. Something that we can work with and channel with a control over it. There is a power in our Breath. Breath has a power to influence our minds. Breath has the power to influence our mind so we can set it to win. Breath has a power to influence our mind so it comes to the present to make our action full, complete, 100 percent and henceforth successful. The action taken from this mind-space has no room for regret and is rid of any fear or anxiety. This kind of action has power. This mind-set gets you to Win. What do you say?
Thank you Bhavna for your review, thoughts and contribution for which I am most grateful.
