Workshop Overview

In this unique and engaging workshop, you will experience a new approach to building resilience using the Havening Techniques. This is a simple and highly effective tool, informed by neuroscience, which can help social workers, and their colleagues, alleviate and prevent stress. 

Increasingly, Social Workers and social care staff are having to do a lot more with less placing an ever growing pressure on their emotional, mental and physical well-being. Constant change and uncertainty, budget cuts, caseloads and service users becoming more complex, stretched leadership and working conditions, poor work/life balance and ongoing media scrutiny are significant contributory factors to these pressures. In short many social workers and their colleagues operate in overwhelmed mode constantly. 

 

Multiple reports have confirmed the detrimental impact of these stressors specifically on social workers’ health and personal lives; including surveys and reports published by BASW and by Plymouth University.  Many social workers are finding the demands too high and have desires to leave the job or the profession. The average career length for a social worker is now just 7-8 years.  This is not only costly employers it is also costly for the social workers and the profession as a whole as it is getting in the way of building a confident and capable workforce. 

This workshop will provide a unique and highly effective tool that can help build your emotional resilience and wellbeing as well as improve your practice.

  • People who work within the field of social work ie student social Workers, assistant social workers, care managers, care Co-ordinators, support workers and admin staff. 

 

Objective:

  • Participants will leave feeling relaxed with a practical tool in the palm of their hands, Havening Techniques used for personal use only, to reduce stress levels and improve wellbeing. 

  • As a result participants will be able to improve their service to service users as they become more emotionally resilient practitioners.

In this workshop you will learn:

  • The dynamics and impact of positive and negative stress on our mind and bodies.

  • How excessive workplace stress and low resilience can have a negative impact on service user outcomes as well as your personal wellbeing. 

  • How to use Havening Techniques, for personal use, to let go of unwanted day-to-day stresses and frustrations that occur in your personal and professional life.

  • How to improve the quality of your rest and recovery from a stressful day using your mind and bodies innate resources. 

  • How to improve the quality of your personal and professional relationships.

About

Jan Carpenter is a qualified adult social worker of 20 years up to Team Manager level having had a specialist interest in professional leadership, mental health, safeguarding. He is a certified personal performance coach and corporate/executive coach and certified Havening Techniques® practitioner and Trainer. He has delivered a variety of training courses and learning programs to local authorities and recruitment agencies and has twice been one of the group coaches on the LGA funded Return To Social Work program.
